I am interested in attending Ursuline Academy! What should I do next?
1. Come Visit Us
Ursuline Academy offers you several opportunities to become acquainted with our campus, faculty, and students. As a prospective student, you are welcome to visit the school during one of our Open Houses (registration now open!) or you may opt to take a group tour of the school during one of our Walk Through Wednesdays. The Admission Office can also arrange an individual tour and/or classroom observation for you and your family at your convenience.
Students applying for grades 2 – 12 are encouraged to spend a day attending classes at Ursuline, beginning in October. Students applying for the Lower School will be assigned to a host teacher for the day; students applying for the Middle or Upper School will shadow one of our students throughout the school day. We ask you to complete a Shadow Day Request Form at least one week in advance. On visit days, lunch is provided for you, and the dress code is “dressy casual” – no jeans or sneakers, please.
2. Submit an Application
Please submit your completed application, along with the $75 processing fee, to the Admission Office. This fee also covers your Admission Test or Screening.

3. Forward Request for Records and Teacher Recommendation Forms
Once your application is submitted to Ursuline Academy, two (2) teacher recommendation forms and a records request form should be submitted to your current school. It is recommended at least one (1) teacher recommendation comes from a core subject teacher. The Admission Committee may require further recommendations or information in order to create a more complete profile of your academic experience thus far. The recommendations and records are to be sent directly from your current school to Ursuline. We recommend your parents follow up with your current school to ensure the proper information has been sent.
4. Forward a Copy of Your Birth Certificate
All applicants are required to submit a copy of their birth certificate. Please email a copy of your certificate to the Admission Office, or mail it to the attention of the Admission Office:
1106 Pennsylvania Avenue
Wilmington, DE 19806
Birth certificates may also be faxed to (302) 658-4297.
5. Schedule Admission Testing
The screening process for children ages 3 – 5 includes an observation and developmental readiness assessment by our Early Childhood Staff. Applicants for grades 1 – 8 will complete grade-appropriate assessments in verbal, reading, and math skills. Applicants for grades 9 – 12 take the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) CTP 4 test, Verbal, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics subtests. This test serves as both an Admission and Scholarship Test for incoming 9th graders (when taken on select dates). Registration for the 2016 Admission/Scholarship Test for 9th Graders is now available! Click here!
As an Academy that welcomes diversity, Ursuline Academy admits students without regard to race, color, creed, religion, or national/ ethnic origin. Admission to Ursuline Academy is based on your individual and academic criteria, which vary depending on your current grade level. The Admission Committee determines acceptance through an evaluation of your readiness, the Admission Test or Screening, and when applicable, your previous school record, and teacher recommendations. Provided your admission file is complete, committee decisions will be made on a rolling basis, as space in the requested grade is available.
