Stacey Hondry Bacchieri '78
Ursuline Academy is proud to recognize its 2013 Angela Boyle ‘53 Service Award recipient Stacey Hondry Bacchieri ‘78. The Angela Boyle ‘53 Service Award was established to honor an alumna who exemplifies Serviam, a guiding principal at Ursuline Academy meaning “I will serve”.
Mrs. Bacchieri is Vice-President of Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s Board of Trustees and is recognized for promoting the importance of research in clinical trials. She is Board President and a regular volunteer for DBCC’s resale shop, Great Stuff. As a breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Bacchieri is a mentor and a role model for women faced with a breast cancer diagnosis themselves.
“[Stacey is the] voice of encouragement…,” said Theresa Mullins Shorey ‘80. “I know she has touched many people in many walks of life in ways that won’t make the featured story, won’t garner her awards or recognition. However, with her quiet and anonymity and with compassion and genuine concern, she has been that same beacon of light to many others just as she was for me. Stacey indeed personifies the Ursuline Academy motto - Serviam - I will serve. Her example of leadership, social responsibility, and service is an inspiration to future Ursuline graduates to lead and serve.”
Mrs. Bacchieri was a co-founder of the Greenville Giving Group, an organization that raised funds through the private sale of clothing, with all profits going to local area charities. She and her husband, Gregg have played an integral part in supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware and Avondale/Kennet, Pennsylvania. They have underwritten the rehab of the gymnasium at Serviam Academy, for which Stacey is a member of the Advisory Council. Currently they are supporting Ursuline Academy by underwriting the remodeling and upgrade of all the bathrooms on the first floor of Ursuline’s Upper School, as well as the renovation of the Early Childhood’s “Discovery Studio” in the Lower School which includes a new working kitchen for the children and a stage.
