Visual Arts

Our Middle School Visual Arts Program gives you the tools to demonstrate a confident understanding of the Elements and Principles of Art, as well as proper use of a variety of artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography. Our hands-on curriculum also helps you explore your own creative expression under the study of our extensively experienced art teachers in the Fine Arts Department. Our Program provides you with an open space to explore your artistic talents and participate in a self-reflective exercise that not only gives you a moment of tranquility but helps you discover your personal identity.

Our Middle School Program provides in-depth instruction on multiple artistic concepts and methods, including perspective, figure drawing, portraits, still life, watercolors, acrylics, printmaking, colored pencil, and collage, while drawing inspiration from various time periods throughout Art History. Through artistic exercises and final projects, you practice time management and creative problem solving through independent work and group discussion. Annually, our teachers submit select student work to local art shows, as well as the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and every spring, your compositions are on display for our Annual Day of the Arts. As an eighth grader, you use your learned artistic skills on set design projects for the 8th Grade Musical.

Visual Arts projects and instruction at the Middle School level provide each student with a well-rounded learning experience and skills that transcend academic areas. By completing projects that often require group work and partnering with classmates, you gain team-oriented, organizational, and leadership skills that stress innovative problem solving, provide public speaking experience, and always have an application to the real world.
