If you are tuning into 95.7 Ben FM between the hours of 6-9am, you may have heard the voice of alumna Taylor Marson ’15. Our 7-8th grade students got to hear her voice in person, when Marson visited to share stores about her career in Media and Broadcasting. Marson graduated with a degree in Communications and a concentration in Digital Media & Design from Immaculata University in 2019. Today, she works for BEASLEY Media Group in the 93.3 WMMR Production Department, as the 95.7 Ben FM Morning Show Producer, and as Social Media Coordinator for the John DeBella Show on 102.9 WMGK.
Marson described her unconventional path to this career, which originally began with plans to graduate from college one year early with a degree in special education. However, her passion for singing and songwriting (she was named after her parent’s favorite artist, James Taylor) and her drive to breakthrough in a male-dominated industry were the springboard for a last minute switch to communications. She admits that she actually sat in on a former boyfriend’s interview for an unpaid internship at the radio station and insisted that they should hire her instead. She agreed to a 4am shift and worked for over a year without pay, promising to increase the station’s social media presence in exchange for a paid position.
Now a Producer for the 95.7 Ben FM morning show, Marson’s visit included tips of courses to pursue, cities with top broadcasting presence, her favorite interviewees (John Travolta and Joan Jett), and the steps to creating a podcast. Most importantly, she credited Ursuline with providing the necessary leadership tools needed to be persistent and face challenges with confidence. We look forward to welcoming Marson back in January to teach our Middle School students how to create a podcast from start to finish during their Mini-mesters.
